Majority of the site is occupied by broad-leaved deciduous woodlands sporadically broken into smaller sections by the patches of the open steppe type forest, which harbours a whole range of thermophilous elements of the Mediterranean and Pannonian flora and fauna. Geological basement is predominately built by rocks of volcanic origin (andesite conglomerates, tuffs). These rocks sporadically penetrate the surface and because of physical weathering processes they disintegrate into various rock faces, cliffs and rock pedestals (e.g. Čertova skala / Devil Rock - the only fully formed rock pedestal, several others are in the process of forming).

Boky is the representative site of the semi-natural forest ecosystems with habitats providing favourable living conditions for a whole range of different species of national importance including large carnivores such as European lynx Lynx lynx and brown bear Ursus arctos. The site is featured within the national network of protected areas.

The key threat factors include potential increase in the number of visitors coming to the area (nature trial), mouflon Ovis musimon (introduced species) population concentrating into the sections of the steppe type forest and the ongoing problem with the penetration of the site by invasive neophytes (south facing bottom sections).
