The site copies the shape of the Šaštínsky potok Stream. It is a part of the geomorphological unit Záhorská nížina Lowland, subunit Borská nížina Lowland, part Bor and Lakšárska pahorkatina Upland. By passing the sandy dunes, the water stream creates many meandres. According to the Slovak phythogeographical categorization, the site belongs to the area of the Pannonian flora (area Pannonicum, part Eupannonicum, region Záhorská nížina Lowland). The following habitats of national importance are also present: pine-oak acidophilous forests and alder swamp forests. The habitats support the presence of rare and endangered flora and fauna species in the site.

The site represents a significant example of the lowland to montane water streams habitats with the Ranunculion fluitantis and Callitricho-Batrachiona communities developed along the Šaštínsky potok water stream within the Záhorie region. Adjacent habitats are the alder swamp forests. The site is also important due to the presence of the invertebrate species of national importance (Mantis religiosa, Menephilus cylindricus, Oryctes nasicornis).

The site with a high level of vulnerability (forestry). Water regime is threatened especially by draining (existing network of the drainage canals) as well as a potential change of the water regime (i.e. further draining). Forest communities are threatened by clearcutting and the overall soil preparation after cutting (the whole soil profile including the roots remnants is piled up into mounds using heavy mechanisms).
