The site is situated in the Demänovka stream alluvium within the territory of Liptovská kotlina Basin. It is entirely covered with the forest stands surrounded with the managed agricultural land. Basement of the site is formed by proluvial loamy-sandy gravels sporadically enriched by fragments of various rocks.

The site is one of the few surviving areas of typical and well-preserved priority habitat 91E0* Mixed ash-alder alluvial forests of temperate and Boreal Europe (Alno-Padion, Alnion incanae, Salicion albae) still featuring natural tree species composition in Slovakia. This habitat type has survived only on few small sites scattered across the country. The site overlaps with the territory of the Jelšie Nature Reserve.

At present, the site is free from any form of the anthropogenic activity. The site represents the isolated remnants of the alder woods amidst farming and urban landscape. As a result, the intactness of this site is under potential threat from the outcomes of activities realised in its surroundings.
