The site represents an isolated fragment of zonal climatic sprucewoods sporadically affected by peat-forming processes and featuring distinct scree fields. Most preserved stands with well-preserved structure and other typical features of natural forest are located in under-ridge situations.

The site features within this part of Volovské vrchy Hills the only isolated fragment of native montane spruce woods of the habitat type 9410 Acidophilous spruce forests (Vaccinio - Piceetea). The forest survived is typical for features of natural forest and displays well-preserved structure and species composition. The site provides favourable living conditions for a whole group of animal species, notably birds (it overlaps with the Volovské vrchy SPA). Uniqueness of the site is further underlined by the occurrence of springs fostering rich communities of sphagnum moss and other species of Bryophyta. The site overlaps with the territory of nationally designated nature reserve.

Communities of the site are threatened by efforts, if materialised, to open new ski centre in the area. Invasion of bark beetle species from the adjacent converted sprucewoods represents another threat to resident communities.
