Bombina variegata, Vertigo angustior

The site features two bore-holes area around which it is gradually transformed into the shield-like travertine formations as well as several natural springs of mineral waters whose properties give the origin to the travertine rock.

The site possesses the status of a nature reserve and it has been included in the territory of the proposed Malá Fatra SPA. The site harbours the largest population of critically endangered species Cladium mariscus in Slovakia. Močiar consists of the rich mosaic of valuable wetland and spring habitats. The site is also noted for the occurrence of several springs of mineral waters around which various size and shape travertine formations have developed.

The site is in danger of being overgrown with reed and tree vegetation due to the ongoing seral processes. Village authorities have put forward the plan to open a swimming area within the borders of the present nature reserve, which would present a direct threat to the valuable communities and habitats. Mineral waters from the local springs are exploited mostly by locals yet to a lesser extent also by visitors to the area. The area around springs is thanks to still a rather low intensity of spring exploitation subject to a limited damage only resulting from the trampling of surrounding vegetation and litter dropping. Worth paying attention is the fact that ownership rights to the site have not been fully established yet.
