Asplenium adulterinum, Lucanus cervus

The site is situated within the beech-oak altitudinal vegetation zone (Slovak forest altitudinal vegetation zone classification, Zlatnik, 1959) on the north facing slope covered with oak-beech woodland. Geological basement is built by granodiorites.

The site harbours a population of a tiny species of fern with taxonomic name Asplenium adulterinum. This taxon belongs to the species of national importance and it is considered as endemic to Central Europe. The site represents one of its three known Slovak sites. Local population of the species is significantly large (80 clumps) and it is accompanied by another nature conservation important fern species Asplenium adiantum-nigrum. Centred conservation efforts shall also contribute to the preservation of other flora and fauna species of national or European importance, such as large and conspicuous stag beetle Lucanus cervus.

Presence of Asplenium adulterinum has been recorded only on a very small patch of approximately 0.15 ha in size. To safeguard further existence of the population (or even its possible growth), the intervention-free variant of the forest management has been proposed not only for the small patch where species occurs but also for the adjacent slope comprising remnants of native oakwoods with Quercus dalechampii and Quercus polycarpa. The site suffers from air pollution (magnesite dust fallout) originating from a nearby magnesite processing plant.
