Pulsatilla slavica, Pulsatilla subslavica

The site features small isolated enclaves of thermophilous communities associated with the long-term presence of the management activities. Fragments of these communities have survived on south-facing slopes of Levočské vrchy Hills on the sites bordering Hornádska kotlina Basin. Basement is built by rocks of inner Carpathian Palaeogene. The site forms a part of Hornád Valley ecological corridor permitting recent penetration of the Pannonian species.

The site features the last remnants of the habitat type 6210 Semi-natural dry grasslands and scrubland facies on calcareous substrates (Festuco-Brometalia) once so typical for the area of the Hornádska kotlina Basin flysch. Xerothermic communities of this habitat are associated with the extreme topographic features and feature a number of rare species of flora including Pulsatilla slavica. Remaining fragments of the habitat are also noted as important refuges and migration centres of regional importance.

Due to isolation of the particular fragments, the site is under threat being negatively impacted by the high intensity management of the adjacent land. Abandonment of traditional forms of management has gradually led to habitat degradation and the penetration of tree species into the site.
