Tephroseris longifolia ssp. moravica

The site is represented by the nothern slope of Stráž Mt. in the southern part of the Vtáčnik mountain range and by the whole western Vtáčnik mountain edge. 60% of the area is covered with the deciduous beech forest on strongly skeleton substrate. Approximately 1/3 of the area is covered with the mowed meadows. On the northern slope of the mountain edge, there is a transition area between meadows and forests covered with the initial succession of the invasive wood species. It is the main locality of Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica. The mowed meadows create a potential habitat for critically endangered Spermophilus citellus. Geological basement is formed by carbon rocks that emerge to the surface in places.

The aim of protection is to preserve the favourable status of habitat of the Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica population and well-preserved Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests. Quality and importance: The site is significant for the protection of habitat of the Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica population and well-preserved Asperulo-Fagetum beech forests (Ls 5.1).

Part of the site with the occurence of Tephroseris longifolia subsp. moravica is endangered by overgrowing with the self-seeding trees.
